台泰攜手 泰王蒲美蓬讓泰北罌粟絕跡
（中央社記者戴雅真台北13日電）泰王蒲美蓬今天病逝，享壽88歲。中華民國與泰國雖無邦交，但雙方交流密切，兩國1970年代合作的「泰王山地計畫」，成功讓罌粟在泰北絕跡，讓台灣作物種滿泰北山頭。
中華民國政府遷台後，與泰國仍維持邦交。泰王蒲美蓬（Bhumibol Adulyadej）及王后詩麗吉1963年6月曾來台訪問4天，當時的總統蔣中正與第一夫人宋美齡夫婦，親自到松山軍用機場以隆重軍禮歡迎。
1969年，時任國防部長蔣經國也曾以特使身分應邀訪問泰國，覲見泰王。
1971年，泰國在「聯合國大會2758號決議」，針對是否「恢復中華人民共和國在聯合國的合法權利，承認中華人民共和國的代表是中國在聯合國組織的唯一合法代表」，採取棄權。
1975年7月1日，泰國與中華民國斷交，並與中華人民共和國建交。但中華民國與泰國交流不中斷，互設辦事機構，維持密切經濟與民間交流迄今。
中華民國與泰國另一項為人熟知的交流則是「泰王山地計畫」。
泰王1968年為泰北山民奔走，倡導山地計畫，以期剷除滿山遍植的罌粟，協助改種高經濟作物。當時中華民國與泰國仍有邦交，泰王1970年召見駐泰大使沈昌煥尋求協助。
1971年，台灣贈送果苗、蔬菜種子到泰北大浦、安康試種；1972年，奉泰王諭令執行計畫的畢沙迪親王親訪台灣農場；1973年退輔會派出福壽山農場副場長宋慶雲到泰勘查，最後在泰緬邊境的安康山試辦農場，山地計畫從這裡開花結果。
泰王山地計畫1993年轉型為皇家計畫基金會，台灣在2年後將合作任務從退輔會改由國際合作發展基金會（簡稱國合會）執行。從原本的水果花卉或造林，近20年改種咖啡等經濟作物。
由於泰國屬於熱帶氣候，台灣是亞熱帶氣候，耕種農作物相似度高，雖然兩國沒有外交關係，但仍透過民間團體合作交流。近年合作包括有柑橘、澀柿、紫百香果、菇類、蔬菜及香草、切花等。
1994年2月16日，台中腳底按摩前總統李登輝訪泰，雖然中共強烈反對，但李登輝仍以「私人性質」會晤泰王，促進雙方非正式外交關係和經濟合作，為政府當時推動的「南向政策」贏得豐碩成果。1051013
