美國民謠搖滾團體The Mamas & the Papas成立於1965，同年底即以一首《California Dreamin'》打進告示牌熱門百大排行榜的第4名，並在德、法、義、西等多個國家唱片大賣，自此揚名國際。次年(1966)，發行了首張專輯《If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears》，除了收錄前述歌曲，其中另首《Monday Monday》不僅奪得排行榜的冠軍，也替該團體贏得了一座「最佳合唱團體」的葛萊美獎。

此首《I Saw Her Again》出自與該團體同名的第2張專輯《The Mamas & the Papas》( 1966 )，此單曲的成績不差，在告示牌熱門榜獲得第5名。歌曲為團體中的2位男生John Phillips與Denny Doherty所合寫，而此曲的背後也有一段故事。4人團體中John Phillips 與Michelle Phillips為夫妻檔，而Denny Doherty與Cass Elliot( 胖妹)則是在加入團體前即已相互熟識的朋友 ( 倆人的關係有多親密不得而知，而在1968團體解散後，Elliot曾提出要Doherty娶她，但遭到拒絕。)，在錄製前述專輯期間，卻爆出Denny和Michelle之間有緋聞，以致專輯錄製中斷，不過後來John原諒了Denny ( 男人有此胸襟實在很難令人想像，而不久後又爆出Michelle和The Byrds樂團的Gene Clark也有戀情關係，Denny有真的生氣到將老婆從樂團開除，由Jill Gibson取代，但在2個半月後因粉絲們的反應又回歸。)，此首歌曲的內容，講的是男人因孤獨無法控制自己腳踏兩條船，但最後仍贏回女友的愛，顯然是在描述之前相互間的混亂情感，而只是將男女角色倒置。此曲聽來像是「披頭合唱團」的歌曲，沒錯，的確是為了捕捉「披頭」的風格而編寫的歌曲。

The Mamas & the Papas於1968解散，Michelle替John生了個女兒Chynna Phillips ( 註) 後倆人於1970離異。之後Michelle轉戰演藝圈，也算是一路順風。依據資料，Michelle之後又結過4次婚，除之外緋聞對象前後計15人，也是4人中目前唯一在世的 (81歲)。
