對於英國樂團The Hollies，或許有些人並不熟悉，但若提到他們的那首《He Ain't Heavy, He is My Brother》，可能就有印象了( 亂談80 )。The Hollies成軍於1962年，由於風格前衛以及三部合音的特色，而成為60年代英國的領導樂團之一，但直至1966年才以一首《Bus Stop》打入美國排行榜和市場。

《Long Cool Woman In a Black Dress》是主唱Allan Clarke與人共同合寫，這首歌和The Hollies以往歌曲的三部合音風格大不相同，除了強調主奏吉他，而且是由Allan Clarke自己獨唱。其實這首歌的節奏和旋律基本上都是參考C.C.R.( 清水合唱團 ) 的《Green River》，甚至Clarke還模仿John Fogerty的唱腔方式。

當這首歌於1972在美國推出時，Allan Clarke其實已離開了The Hollies，沒料到此曲竟然衝至告示牌熱門百大的第2名，在美國和全球的唱片銷售量超過了350萬張。Allan Clarke在1973年的夏天又重回到了The Hollies，其中也有因為是這首歌成功的緣故。
