The Lemon

r. Stevens parked his new sedan in front of the auto dealer and stomped into the manager’s office.

        “I want my money back,” demanded Mr. Stevens. “That Sparrow is a lemon!”

        “What do you mean… a lemon?” asked the amazed manager. “The car is the best car manufactured today.”

        “That’s what you say. The car won’t start in the morning, won’t stop when I turn off the ignition, and for a Sparrow it eats too much gas.”

        “Well, that doesn’t prove it’s a lemon. Let’s just take your Sparrow for a spin and check it out.”

So they drove around the block in the Sparrow. A traffic light turned red, but the car didn’t halt. The Sparrow kept on until it had a collision with another car.

        “What happened?” stammered the manager. “Why didn’t you stop?”

        “I forgot to tell you,” confessed Mr. Stevens. “The brakes don’t work either.”
