海灘少年 ( The Beach Boys ) 樂團團員Brian Wilson在某個派對中遇到相識的二重唱團體Jan and Dean，Brian秀他寫的新歌《Surfin' U.S.A.》給倆人聽，倆人建議此曲可作為他們的新單曲，但遭到Brian的拒絕，因該曲是要寫給自己的樂團唱的。結果Brian又示範了另首暫時取名為《Goody Connie Won't You Come Back Home》的開頭部份，並表示自己對此曲的興趣不大且應該永遠都不會寫完。之後Jan Berry接著將此曲完成 ( 其實Dean Torrence也貢獻了部份的詞曲，但並未要求掛名。)，再改名成為此首《Surf City》。

歌詞的第一句：Two girls for every boy，每位男孩可以有兩位女孩？有位影音的回應者說：有這麼好康的地方？！他也想去。呵呵！ 1991，二重唱之一的Dean Torrence搬到了加州橙縣的一個城市---Huntington Beach ( 杭亭頓海灘 )，協助說服當選的官員，將此城市正式暱稱為「Surf City, USA」。在與加州另個城市Santa Cruz往返多次的「爭名」訴訟後，Huntington Beach於2006正式註冊成為「Surf City, USA」，至2009，此城市中有超過65家的公司行號，其名稱中含有「Surf City」。
