此首《Take These Chains From My Heart》為美國早期鄉村音樂的指標性人物Hank Williams於1952年9月所錄。三個多月後的1953的新年，Hank Williams要趕場作秀，但因天候不佳無法搭乘飛機，而僱了位大學生替他開車，卻在途中死於自己車的後座 ( 醫師判為突發的心臟問題所致，而應該和長期的酗酒及嗑藥也有關。 )，此曲也就成為了Hank Williams的遺作。
歌曲於1953年4月推出後廣受好評，Hank Williams自傳的作者Colin Escott甚至認為這是Hank歷來表現得最好的一首歌，此曲也當然地奪得了鄉村榜的冠軍。其實，Hank Williams在錄唱此曲之前的3個月，才剛結束和首任妻子Audrey Sheppard長達八年的婚姻。離婚之前，雙方爭吵不休，最後終於獲得解脫，Hank 在錄唱此曲時，想必內心是感觸良多吧！( Hank Williams於1952年10月再婚，而才不到3個月，新婚妻子Billie Jean就成了寡婦，而Hank死時也才29歲。)
翻唱此曲的大牌歌手也甚多，包含有Dean Martin、Glen Campbell、Merle Haggard等，而美國黑人盲人歌手Ray Charles於1963推出的版本，在美、英排行榜分別為第8和第5名，也應是台灣歌友較為熟悉的版本。
