英國的Tyrannosaurus Rex ( 雷克斯暴龍 ) 樂團組成於1967，至1970才將團名簡化為T. Rex，之後在外型上作中性或異性的妝扮，而成為帶動glam rock ( 華麗搖滾 ) 的先驅樂團。

此首《Get It On》是T. Rex的靈魂人物Marc Bolan ( 原名為Mark Feld，據說Bolan為取自Bob Dylan名字的前後。) 所寫。他也不諱言，原本一直很想翻唱Chuck Berry的一首《Little Queenie》，故而採用了與L.Q.雷同的riff ( 在歌曲中會重複出現的一段旋律 )，甚至在歌曲淡出結束前，直接引用了L.Q.中的一句歌詞「And meanwhile, I'm still thinking」。此曲於1971推出後，登上了英國排行榜的冠軍。之後在美國發行，但為了避免與美國樂團Chase的同名歌混淆，將歌名改為《Bang a Gong (Get It On)》，而在美國告示牌只獲得了第10名。

其實這是一首有關於「性」的歌曲，但因呈現的意像隱晦不清，許多人恐未能察覺到。「get it on」在美國的俚語為「上床」「性交」的意思。「Bang a Gong」也非「敲鑼」，在70年代是「用鼻子吸毒品」的隱語。

Marc Bolan曾結過一次婚 (1970─1974 )，後與他的合音歌手Gloria Jones在一起，還生了個兒子。1977/09/16，由Gloria Jones開車載他自餐廳返家，途中車子失控撞上了路邊的一棵梧桐樹，Gloria Jones受傷骨折，Marc Bolan則當場死亡，享年29歲。
