"Weaker Worker"

Weaker Worker
upon seeing a lonesome female shoveller

By Sidney Chou

Under Phoebus feel fair feet and feather;
Thou, Sun of golden beams, the only one,
Pity comes to nothing, She with labor,
With sweats and tears she makes soul pray and run.

In a breath she stays by a lesser motion,
A fainting statue patched with solitude.
Still the rays delight her eyes’ reflection;
Is there a dazzl’ing pearl conceit’dly brewed?

Thousands years afar with Eve in Eden,
In slight and ease there fell a fruit tabooed;
Still the man is delving, so why woman?
Despite, Commandments therefore strictly viewed.

Under Phoebus things with heat to suffer,
And stands a weaker flesh of dignity;
Weaker worker, vale of sorrow’s suckler,
Thus bends down digging with no charity.
