*Project Progress*
IMTD successfully hosted the 2nd Cross Strait Dialogue last Friday from 5 PM to 7 PM. There were 13 participants from Taiwan, China and US. There were 4 Americans, 4 Chinese, and 5 Taiwanese. It was a good representation. The dialogue was very dynamic and the participants were able to discuss some of their different viewpoints.
The participants talked about the reason why Chinese people sometimes show dislike to Taiwanese and why Chinese people like Japanese pop culture but show strong anti-Japanese feelings. Japan was a big issue in this dialogue because Taiwan was colonized by Japan for more than 50 years. There is an identity problem in Taiwan.
The participants also dealt with the issue of how China treats Taiwan, the rudeness from China that the public perceive and the reasons why Taiwan and its government want to push the independence agenda.
It was unfortunate that two hours are too short and the participants did not feel that they have enough time to deal with their concerns and questions for one another.
I am preparing for the upcoming dialogue between China and Japan. The China-Japan Dialogue will take place next Friday November 16, 2007. Hence, I will produce a flyer and start the invitation process.
