哈得遜河畫派由一群與眾不同的風景畫家組成，美國獨立以後的幾十年間漸漸嶄露頭角，在1820到1880期間十分活躍。之所以稱為「哈得遜河畫派」，是因為該畫派的畫家，大多住在紐約州的哈得遜河一帶，並在當地作畫。此畫派的特點在於他們非常專注描繪大自然的細節，畫風深具詩意。有些住在美西地區或是墨西哥、南美洲及地中海一帶的畫家，他們的作品也歸為哈德遜河畫派，因為這些風景呈現浪漫的風格，且構圖嚴謹，對細節的拿捏也十分精準。

Hudson River School Artists
The Hudson River School was a disparate group of landscape painters whoemerged in the decades following the United States independence fromGreat Britain. The group flourished between 1820 and 1880 and was sonamed as many of the artists associated with the group lived andpainted near the Hudson River in New York State. A rigorous attentionto detail and a highly romantic and poetic approach to naturecharacterize the painting of the Hudson River school. A number ofpainters who painted in the American West, Mexico, South America, andthe Mediterranean have also been included in the Hudson River Schoolfor their romantic appreciation of landscapes and their use of formalcomposition and precise detail.
