0731 達蘭埠黑暗部落豐年祭

Fuli, Hualien – which is a small town with population Hakka, Hoklo and the aboriginal - Ami people, located at the end of Hualien County, Taiwan. “Fuli Rice” and Daylily, both are well-known agriculture product and full planted here, also gaining a well reputation for Fuli. Drive along No. 9 provincial highway and passes by bamboo field of Fuli, the views at south of East Rift Valley National Scenic Area open-up with each turn.

Around point 308KM, a significant landmark of Sixty-Stone Mountain standing on the right-hand.

Sixty-Stone Mountain (Liushidan Mountain)is located to the east of Jhutian Village, Fuli township, Hualien County. In summer time, daylily could be found here around 800 meters above. The blooming of daylilies in August and October make this an otherworldly fairyland. It’s an open field owned a great view to East Rift Valley National Scenic Area and Central Mountain Range. A breathtaking sight show up when you walking along the tiny path-way that reach the hill-top.

On 30 July, 2010 I drove from Sinpou, Kuanyin Township, Taoyuan County at 9:00am, to Fuli Township, Hualien County at 5:00am. Then, I joined the Dalanbu tribe** (also names, Dark tribe) of Ami people for the rehearsal of the Festival**  that opening on the coming next day. A church is constructed at the entrance to the tribe that easily to be found. Luckily to talk with the leader of heroes and beginning with “Where to find the organic vegetable?” “Right on the table.”

After 2.5 hours non-stop dancing and singing till midnight, hardly to imagine their energy comes from. Usually, the chieftain and the seniors sit on the chairs that make a circle on the ground, and then, the heroes, the women singing and dancing around the circle(Children will do and follow the same way after the formal activity).

On 31 July, 2010 I drove to Sixty-Stone Mountain at 9:00am, a bit late to catch the first sun-light though. The farmers water on daylilies in the morning and pick daylilies all day, I’m supposed the full blooming of daylilies could be start after one week. Therefore, the fresh air and great views really take shots. On 10:00am, the festival of the Dalanbu tribe start right on-time. The colorful dresses and head ornament they wearing really catch visitors eyes. A film could be watch by click: 2010 阿美族年會 (or web: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_CWs767VYY ).

The festival of the Dalanbu tribe is the first activity that take place by eight tribes that Ami people belong to. Actually, the other seven tribes also signed representative to join this festival. Also, everyone is encouraged to dance with Ami people. All visitors come from anywhere of the world is warm welcome, and to join the aboriginal meal for the festival.

2-day trip and 3-day trip both are popular way to visit Fuli Township, 3-day trip is strongly recommended. It should have a reason to persuade me to take a long-drive 240KM in one way via No. 9 provenience way, and that’s it, indeed.

Liu-Shi-Dan Mountain, " Liu-Shi-Dan" means "Sixty units" and/or "Sixty stones" in Chinese. 1 Dan(unit) = 10 Dou = 6.795 x 10(KG) = 67.95KGs = 67,950gs

The Dalanbu tribe make a living by planting on Jhutian Village, with population 700 person (roughly), which is working on matriarchal society. The heroes usually leaving their home-town and working in Taipei County, Taoyuan County or Taidung County, most of them still take heavy physical labor. And, they come back Fuli on the Tomb-day, the Festival and the New-Year Day. Warm-smile, splendid meal and good at conversation is the way they share with the visitors.

**Festival is advance for the blooming of daylilies, the opening activity of 2010 is arranged on 30 – 31, July.
