Historical Stroll: Experience Old Monga

Early in the morning, the earth wakes up at the first glimmer of dawn. In the morning market hawkers sell their brightly hued fruits and green vegetables, filling the morning with color and sound!

Morning markets first sprang up outside temple gates, where in the old days people went to worship the deities bright and early, and afterwards did their shopping and had a bite to eat.

Monga, today’s Wanhua District, was the earliest settlement in Taipei. Its deep historical and cultural roots are a source of nourishment for the city. It is no wonder that the district is home to many of Taipei’s most alluring temples, such as Longshan Temple, Qingshui Zushi Temple, and Dizang Temple, gracing Old Monga with a perpetually boisterous and dignified air.
