此曲為Chip Taylor所寫，這位老兄有位知名的影星哥哥Jon Voight ( 強‧沃特)，而哥哥的女兒更有名，為超級女演員Angelina Jolie ( 安潔莉娜裘莉 )。

據Chip Taylor自己陳述，他寫此曲的靈感為來自於某日在車上的收音機聽到滾石樂團(The Rolling Stones ) 的一首《Ruby Tuesday》( 該曲為述說一位生活率性、不受世俗道德羈絆的女子，為以團員Keith Richards的前女友Linda作為人物原型。)，而此首「早晨的天使」〉則為述說「未婚前性行為」或是「一夜情」甚或是「賣春」之關係，這在當時的保守社會並不能被接受，故此曲首欲交由女歌手Connie Francis ( 康妮法蘭西絲 ) 來唱，被認為會損及其名譽、形象而遭退回。之後於1967由Evie Sands首錄發行，卻因唱片公司財務問題未做宣傳行銷而致成績不佳。次年1968，女歌手Merrilee Rush 發行其版本，一舉衝上了排行榜第7名，亦獲得了葛萊美獎年度最佳女歌手的提名。

13年後的1981，女歌手Juice Newton翻唱此曲，成績相當亮眼，在告示牌熱門百強No.4、當代成人No.1及 錢櫃百強No.2，也獲得了葛萊美獎年度最佳女歌手的提名。雖說如此，台長還是較喜歡Merrilee Rush的版本。

台灣女歌手蘇芮初出道時藝名Julie，演唱西洋歌曲，曾擔任由譚健常領軍的Action合唱團的女主唱。印象中就曾在電視上看過Julie與Action演唱此首《Angel of the Morning》，由於歌路適合，唱得非常不錯。
