美國鄉村男歌手Conway Twitty與「礦工的女兒」Loretta Lynn均在50年代出道，也各有亮眼成績。而自1971年起，除了獨唱事業，倆人也開始合作成為雙人組合，這可是起了相乘效果，一開始就連續有5首歌曲拿下了鄉村榜的冠軍。於此之5、6年期間，鄉村音樂協會、學院分別給予多個「年度雙人合唱」、「最佳雙人組合」獎項。倆人所發行的第一首單曲《After the Fire is Gone》(1971)，也替倆人奪得了一座葛萊美獎。

此曲收錄在倆人於1978發行的專輯《Honky Tonk Heroes》中，專輯成績不差，獲得鄉村專輯榜的第8名，但此曲未另發行單曲。歌詞的邏輯有點奇怪，男女主角既已合法的在一起，還在內疚如此的做法不對、傷害了彼此之前的配偶，而且神也會站在他們 ( 之前配偶 ) 的一方。早知如此、何必當初？心理清楚、但身體不受指揮？懺悔了就會得到救贖？其實這首歌很難不令人聯想到倆人之間的「關係」，莫非如同歌詞所說，就因為不願傷害彼此的對方，這對歌唱情侶才未將「身份合法化」？

1993，Conway暈倒在巡演巴士，隨即被送往醫院，Loretta也正巧因丈夫心臟病住同家醫院，Loretta央求Conway不要「丟下她」，但Conway還是因為「腹主動脈瘤」死在手術台上，享年59歲。2016，Loretta在公共廣播電視 ( PBS ) 節目談到了Conway：「大家都認為我和Conway之間有些什麼，但這與事實相去甚遠。」，「我喜歡Conway做為朋友，我的丈夫也同樣的喜歡他。」，「Conway是音樂界真正唯一一位Doo ( Loretta的丈夫 ) 不會在意的人。」

2022年10月，Loretta Lynn在家中於睡夢中過世，享年90歲。
