1973，Bob Dylan為電影《Pat Garrett & Billy the Kids》( 中譯：比利小子 ) 寫了一首《Knockin' on Heaven's Door》。1975，英國歌手及詞曲作家Arthur Louis將此曲改編為「雷鬼 ( reggae )」曲風，並找了「吉他之神」Eric Clapton共同參與。熟知就在此改編版單曲發行的一週前，Clapton推出了以Louis版再經自己詮釋的版本，而B面則為此首由Arthur Louis作詞作曲的《Someone Like You》。受到了Clapton的「互打」，Arthur Louis的版本當然有受到影響，還好最後在多方的關注 ( 包含日本 ) 之下，仍攀登上「國際排行榜」的第6名。

Eric Clapton也稱得上是個「泡妞大王」，與之有緋聞關係的女人前後共計46人，其中最讓人樂道的是他曾表白喜歡好友---披頭合唱團的主奏吉他手George Harrison的老婆Pattie Boyed，並為此痛苦到自我放逐過一陣子，皇天不負癡情漢，Patti在1975還真的和Eric在一起，1979結婚，1988離異。

此曲為Arthur Louis所寫，應該和Pattie Boyed沒啥關係，但由歌詞內容，又適逢和Patti的關係進展，想必Eric Clapton唱來是另有一番滋味在心頭。雖為翻唱，個人覺得，Eric詮釋此曲較原唱Arthur為佳。
