老歌亂談(908)Dirty Old Town
此首《Dirty Old Town》為英國歌手兼詞曲作家Ewan MacColl於1949所寫，並於1952錄唱發行。之後被多位歌手、團體翻唱，像是民謠團體The Dubliners ( 1968 )、Rod Stewart ( 1969 ) 等，而1985英國樂團The Pogues的版本，更使得此曲廣為流行。
此曲所描述的是英國西北部蘭開夏郡的索爾福德市 ( Salford, Lancashire )，也是寫歌者Ewan MacColl出生成長的地方。Salford為工業城市，像歌詞中提到的煤氣廠、彌漫著煙霧的污濁空氣以及充斥著工業廢棄物的運河。其中一句歌詞「smelled the smoke on the Salford Wind」，令Salford的市議會感覺有些不堪，施壓要求改為「smelled the spring on the smoky wind」，但許多翻唱者仍忠於原詞，認為這才是Salford的實際景像。
此曲令台長想到目前當紅的「高雄市」。台長曾在高雄居住長達20年，算是台長的「第二故鄉」。說到「Dirty Town」，高雄應不遑多讓，林園石化區、前鎮工業區、鼓山水泥廠、楠梓煉油廠，及曾經髒到有臭味的愛河。但故鄉就是故鄉，無論再怎麼樣，就是有一份無法割捨的情感。許多英國人對此首《Dirty Old Town》也是一樣，不僅不嫌棄曾經有地緣關係的骯髒舊城，反而成為了「愛鄉」歌曲，藉著演唱此曲來抒發對故鄉的懷念。此曲也成為Salford足球俱樂部的歌曲，球迷常在球場齊唱此曲，或為激勵士氣，或為抒發贏球的興奮心情。哈哈，可惜還沒有一首可代表高雄的歌曲。
