這是一首西部鄉村歌曲，由Stanley Lebowsky和 Herb Newman所作。1956分別由Gogi Grant、Tex Ritter及Jimmy Young錄唱發行，結果 Gogi Grant的版本獲得美國告示牌排行榜的冠軍及銷售的金唱片。1963，在英國出生的澳籍歌手Frank Ifield的版本，也獲得英國單曲排行榜的冠軍。而美國鄉村女歌手Pasty Cline在1961亦翻唱此曲，其版本雖未入榜，卻廣受歌友們的喜愛 ( Pasty Cline於1963因搭乘飛機失事身亡，享年30。)。
此曲亦被翻成國語歌曲《天邊一朵雲》，由老牌國語歌星白光演唱，也是早年大家耳熟能詳的一首歌。2005，由蔡明亮導演的電影不僅以《天邊一朵雲 / The Wayward Cloud》作為片名，並以白光的國語版作為主題曲，唯該片因涉及「色情 or 藝術」？曾引起頗大的爭議。
