說到The Mamas & The Papas這個成立於1965年的美國民謠搖滾合唱團，人們首先會想到的應該是他們的招牌代表作《California Dreamin'》，該曲入榜的最高名次為第4名。而這首1966年的《Monday Monday》才是他們真正第一名的冠軍曲，也是唯一的一首。

據說當時他們還在等《California Dreamin'》發行時，團員之一的Denny Doherty故意激戳會寫歌的John Phillips，問能否弄出一些新的東東來？Phillips回說等他明天早上回來，將會帶來一首未來會出現在全世界的歌。果然當晚大約只花了20分鐘就完成了這首《Monday Monday》，但其他三人都不喜歡，經過他的堅持，最後才一起灌唱。

這首歌除了合聲優美，特別處是有個「假結尾 ( false ending )」，即歌曲像似結束了，幾秒之後又再進行。這也是繼The Young Rascals樂隊的《Good Lovin'》之後，第二首有假結尾而獲得排行榜冠軍的歌曲。

這首《Monday Monday》替The Mamas & The Papas在1967獲得了一座葛萊美「最佳流行歌曲二重唱或團體演唱獎」。許多人認為，這首歌曲最佳的版本，是他們在Monterey Rock Festival上的現場演唱版，但或由於現場收音的問題，整體聽來，我覺得並不怎麼樣。

這首歌詞，好似講的是才和情人渡過了個不錯的週末假期，至於這個禮拜能否依舊繼續，則也不敢預期。但說來好笑，對於歌曲的含意，連寫歌者John自己都說不上來。
