老歌亂談（九十一）The Letter
根據Billboard的統計，1967年成績最佳的單曲是《To Sir With Love》（吾愛吾師），《The Letter》只得到總冠軍的第七名。不過，錢櫃雜誌的統計方式與Billboard不同，根據他們的排行榜，《The Letter》才是1967年的總冠軍。
這首歌的作曲者Wayne Carson Thompson說，某日他的父親丟給他一句”Give me a ticket for an aeroplane”，看他能否找到一些靈感，他由此開始構思，而寫出了這首歌曲，並一炮而紅，但這也是The Box Tops（箱頂合唱團）唯一的一首冠軍曲。
當紅的熱門歌曲自然會被國內樂團爭相演唱，但當年許多樂團並沒有電風（子）琴，為了製造歌尾的飛機起飛效果，要怎麼弄？已難考究始作俑的發明者是誰，大家就用Pick（吉他彈片）順者電吉他的琴柄由下往上刮，似乎也略有一些些那麼的味道。在資源匱乏的六零年代玩音樂，這也算是「窮則變」的一項有趣回憶了。
