Educational Philosophy Statement
Working as an intern elementary school teacher in the School District, I will view the experiences I will gain as my benefits. I will value and treasure quality moments I spend with my students, conversations with students, parents, and my peer teachers, planning sessions that increase quality learning time, and conferences that help in students’ learning. Although the benefits will be huge and full-filling, at the same time the responsibility of looking out for the students is demanding. A seizure, an injury or a negative comment may erupt at anytime. I will have to challenge myself to give enough attention to all students at time when they need the emotion and academic support. I know that challenges may come so sudden and hit me when I am not aware. To do my best, I will have to constantly reflect on my day and every teaching moment, making sure that I cover all my students’ need as well as challenge my students to perform at their best.
For the benefit of the child, I will always challenge myself. I will also challenge the student, the family and the school to seek resources and the help needed. I know that this is my role as a teacher because no one can learn by sitting still. Learning is an active process. Many students and families don’t know where to go for help and when do they need one. To make sure my students are learning, in my lessons they will be presented a dilemma and be aroused in an eagerness to learn. It will be the student’s responsibly to find the solution and help each other during the process. The students will also have to keep themselves focus on activities and what is happening around them. To help them stay focus, I will make sure that my students are on task. I will do so by circulating around, giving praise to positively reinforce good behaviors, and include different learning styles in my lesson. I will also make sure students review what they have learned everyday by giving them homework.
I understand that not all of us learn at the same rate and we possess different talents. It would not be fair if a teacher ask all her students to work at the same academic level. Whether it is reading, writing, math, or other subjects, I would never ask my students to produce the same product as everyone else. Rather, depends on students’ level, I will require them to work to their full potential. So any work that has not been given enough effort and attention will not be accepted. I will require all students to behave the same way as any other would. In order to create a safe learning environment, my students should always use positive comments, respect every individuals, listen attentively, walk in order, and give out their best effort in their work. These are the standards I believe and expect my students to maintain.
I understand the demand of this job is a great challenge. I hope to take up the role and responsibilities of teaching, and I will ask myself and my students to maintain the standards at all time.
