Japadog at waterfront station
'It's the newest street dog in town!.. the hottest perhaps?
NOT! Japadog could heave a sigh of relief for now.
Japadog is a legendary hot dog cart located in downtown Vancouver, BC, Canada.
It was featured on the Olympics, Anthony Bourdain, etc.
I was expecting toppings as chutney, yogurt, maybe paneer, or some curry infused side condiments, but there was only mustard, ketchup, and bbq sauce, typical for the dirty water dog varieties, not a stand named as Tandoori Tikka Dog.
First things first, this doesn't have the oomph and character coolness of Japadog that locals and visitors have grown to love. Decor, Vibe – Japadog is just a glorified hot dog cart pictures all over it, and lines of fellow crazy people. Tourists and lots of locals were in line. Apparently the lines for even longer during weekday lunch hours.
No long line ups here~yes!!!
Japadog Menu has several types of Japanese style hot dogs with various toppings and meats. Menu gets updated from time to time.
Okonomi ($6.25) with Kurobuta pork hot dog, Bonito flakes, fried cabbage, Japanese mayo, and special Okonomiyaki sauce was a good sized hotdog smothered with ingredients. The mayo has little flavor has dipped and fried cabbage. They just help balance out the meatiness. Excellent bun.
Kurobuta Terimayo ($6.75) with the same hotdog, fried onions, nori seaweed flakes, and teriyaki sauce was also a very good hotdog. A sauce made it messy and slightly overwhelmed the hotdog. Very nice casing to the hotdog, one that added some snap.
