Cho Sun B.B.Q. Korea Restaurant.
Cho Sun is a friendly, authentic Korean BBQ restaurant that serves up all the classics, including your own personal table BBQ.
Place is located on the north side of Kingsway a few stores east of Windsor St. Parking is easy and free. There are plenty of tables and several private booths.
Lunch special for only $9.95
Service: Spotty, and inconsistent. You need to be somewhat assertive here to make sure that you get what side dishes, drinks, napkins you need. Once the food is delivered to you, the staff pretty much just disappears.
The only downside is the burner takes up a lot of table space and it can be very cramped with all of the side dishes taking up room. Prepare to be a bit cramped and get a bit messy.
Ambiance: Not much ambiance, but the experience is definitely unique. Yes, cooking can be fun when you don't have to do any shopping or dishes :) Each table has a large burner in the middle and you can cook your meat as you like it.
Overall: The place works because it's a different experience than other places. It's worth going once a year just for something new to try.
kimchi firerice.
Value: Despite the fact you do the cooking, it's a pretty solid value. With the free sides, you can fill up quite nicely.
All main dishes are served with a number of small compimentary plates of banchan (side dishes), inlcuding kimchi, dongchimi, ggakdugi, and so on.
If this doesn't mean anything to you I suggest you do 2 things: (1) go there and try it;
and (2) check out "banchan" on Wikipedia.
The meat dishes (are nicely grilled and marianated in a sort of sweet-soy sauce under very tender.
seafood pancake.
I could go on but you get the picture. In terms of value for dollar Cho Sun is fantastic.
I can't wait to go again!
