Acura NSX
Farewell to an Aging Hero

Billed as “Ferrari Fighter”, the Acura NSX garnered a special position in many sports car fans. When the news that Honda is going to stop producing the NSX at December of 2005; we cannot help but head back to the track to say our final farewell to this aging hero.

Launched in 1990, with a minor update in 2001, the NSX has seen many battles. Honda has developed many improvements from the experience of JGTC racing circuit. From the engine, to suspension set up, to the aerodynamics, almost every aspect of the car has been improved. The unique B32C V6 engine produced 280 hp in its final iteration, redline is at a high 8,000 rpm.

Slowly warming up the tires at the race track, to be frank, the experience is almost like driving a Civic, benign and predicable. As the tires warming up, the accelerator dipped further. When the engine climbed above 6,000 rpm, it woke up with a fury. The acceleration in the upper engine rev range is incredible. The linear power output of this naturally aspirated engine is perfect for the race track. Whether accelerating in the long straight, or double clutched down to attack a corner, the engine provides enough power for any situation. The tail is stable and predicable for a mid-engine car. Brakes are strong and seemed never fades.

After 15 years, the NSX is still a strong contender on the track. But, as Japan lifted its domestic horsepower ban in the 2004, more improvements are needed. Farewell our old friend.
