Lotus Elise

Lotus Elise

To put it mildly, Lotus Elise is the most awesome, most impractical vehicle on the road today. It weighs less than two thousand pounds. It responds to driver’s input like a formula racer. It’s quick on its feet, just like a cat.

One sits low in an Elise. The distance between the bottom of the driver’s pants and the road is less than 10 inches. The car become part of the driver; and the road is connected to the car. Every little detail of the road all transmitted faithfully to the driver. And the
Elise obeys every command driver issues.

The Elise acts like a formula racer, too. The light weight body and the wide tires are the perfect combination attacking the tight curves. The back end will slide ever so slightly when going into a turn too fast; just lift the throttle subtly, and the car will regain control. Because of its incredibly light weight body, one can brake later going into a turn and pass other cars from outside. This is just awesome.

The draw back of this light weight body is the day to day convenience. There is barely any shield against the environment inside the car. The wind noise, the tire noise, and the underbody road noise all transmit clearly into the cabin. The cabin itself is very small; driver bangs his right leg against the shifter, his left leg bangs under the steering wheel, while his feet stuck between the pedals.

Again, the Lotus Elise is the most awesome, and the most impractical vehicle on the road today.
