〈 職人英語通〉洗耳恭聽 I’m all ears!

英文裡常用身體的部位來做隱喻，譬如〞all thumbs〞就代表自己「笨手笨腳」的好像10隻手指頭都變成大拇指般。

同理，如果說〞all ears!〞就意味著身上好像到處都長了耳朵，能夠非常仔細地去聆聽對方所說的話，也就是我們中文裡常說的「洗耳恭聽」之意了。

Victor：Hey, you’ve got a minute?

Victor：嘿，有時間嗎？

Fred：I’m quite tied up now actually, but what is it anyway?

Fred：我現在有點忙，到底有什麼事情？

Victor：Never mind, you go ahead. Don’t let me interrupt you.

Victor：算了，你先去忙吧。別讓我打斷你。

Fred：Are you sure? You look quite puzzled and worried… Something bothering you?

Fred：你確定嗎？你看起來很困惑又擔心的樣子……，有什麼困擾嗎?

Victor：Well, not really… It’s just I need to share my understanding of the industry at the meeting tomorrow and the CEO will be present, too.

Victor：也沒什麼啦…。只是我明天開會的時候要跟大家分享我對這個產業的理解，而總裁也會在場。

Fred：I see. Anything I can do to help?

Fred：我懂了。有什麼我幫得上忙的？

Victor：You know I’m never a good pubic speaker. Just wondering if you could spare a few minutes with me so I can practice a little bit first.

Victor：你知道我最不會演講了。我在想，不知道你能不能撥個幾分鐘陪我先練習一下。

Fred：Of course! A few minutes won’t kill! Shall we start now? I’m all ears!

Fred：當然可以。才幾分鐘又不會少一塊肉。現在開始嗎？那我就洗耳恭聽囉！
