to duck
duck原意是「鴨子」,在此做動詞用,表迅速地「低頭閃避」。我們在池塘邊常可見鴨子將頭埋入水裡找東西吃,或整個身子潛入水中覓食,因此,duck除了指鴨子外,更多了「低頭閃躲」的意思。
