A Practice of Translation

"To my Departed Wife" (original Chinese poem by Yuan Zhen, English translated by Rob Chen)

The youngest one, Mr. Xie's beloved child,
Began suffering since married a Qian Lou like me.
Seeing I was in tatters, you searched all wicker baskets,
And took off your golden hairpin to urge me for wines.
Only leaves of pulse and wild vegetables are in our plates.
For leaves as timbers, you look up to the padoga tree.
Now my salary is more than a million but you're not here.
So I set sacrifices for you with myself in abstinence.
