南瓜燈的傳說
這是古愛爾蘭的一個傳說，當時有個醉鬼傑克，有一天大概又喝醉了，
竟然大膽將撒旦哄到樹上，還在樹上刻了個十字架害撒旦下不來，
這傢伙後來居然跟撒旦談條件，如果撒旦保證他死後不會進地獄，
就把撒旦弄下來。
不久魔鬼又來找Jack要帶他進入地獄，但臨走前Jack要求能不能幫他摘那個在蘋果樹上剛成熟的蘋果，於是魔鬼爬上樹時，Jack在樹上刻了一個十字架讓魔鬼下不來，Jack跟魔鬼談條件，如果魔鬼保證他死後不會進地獄，就讓魔鬼下來.於是魔鬼答應了條件且生氣的回到了地獄。
有一天Jack死了，他到天堂但天堂不願收留他，告訴他應到地獄去，他去地獄時，魔鬼說他己經保證他死後不會進地獄，所以Jack問魔鬼他應該去那裏?魔鬼告訴他你從那裏來就回那裏去，但是Jack向魔鬼說地府太暗了，他看不見路回人間,於是魔鬼就給Jack一個燒的火紅的炭，去照明回去的路，但是那個燒的火紅的炭太燙手了，於是Jack拿了一個大菜頭將火炭放入大菜頭中，作成一個燈籠，這種燈就叫Jack-O’-Lantern，後來愛爾蘭人移民到美國時，發現南瓜比較好刻，就變成了我們今天常見的南瓜燈。

But, the original Jack O’Lantern was not a pumpkin.
The Jack O’Lantern legend goes back hundreds of years in Irish History.
As the story goes, Stingy Jack was a miserable, old drunk who liked to
play tricks on everyone: family, friends, his motherand even the Devil himself.
One day, he tricked the Devil into climbing up an apple tree.
Once the Devil climbed up the apple tree, Stingy Jack hurriedly placed
crosses around the trunk of the tree. The Devil was then unable to get
down the tree. Stingy Jack made the Devil promise him not to take
his soul when he died. Once the devil promised not to take his soul,
Stingy Jack removed the crosses and let the Devil down.
Many years later, when Jack finally died, he went to the pearly gates of

On all Hallow’s eve, the Irish hollowed out Turnips, rutabagas, gourds,
potatoes and beets. They placed a light in them to ward off evil spirits
and keep Stingy Jack away. These were the original Jack O’Lanterns.
In the 1800’s a couple of waves of Irish immigrants came to America.
The Irish immigrants quickly discovered that Pumpkins were bigger
and easier to carve out. So they used pumpkins for Jack O’Lanterns.

有關 Halloween 萬聖節前夕一些由來，就會想到黑色與橘色；
有南瓜與一個巫婆騎著掃把加上一隻神秘黑貓。
很多基督徒~有些慶祝，有些不慶祝這個節日，
我覺得它的故事來源滿恐怖的。
一個人的靈魂要跟邪魔打交道或去慶祝它的生日，是得不償失！
如果大人小孩要歡歡樂樂過個有趣的節日，應該把它改成
《豐年祭》 " Harvest Festival " 比較適合。
我們活在自己的土地上，感謝豐收，感謝所有農夫的辛苦，是應該的。
和諧的氣氛充滿著感恩，那是多麼地美好！
