根據世界經濟合作和發展組織(OECD)的一項調查：「2012年教育一瞥」(Education at a Glance 2012)，加拿大是世界上教育程度最高的國家。

加拿大國民擁有大學及以上學歷的比例，從2000年的40%，增加到2012年的51%。

有關評論稱，加拿大成功成為一個世界上教育程度最高的國家，但並非教育開支最高的國家。世界經合組織國家教育開支佔GDP的平均比率是6.3%；而加國僅為6.1%。

加拿大教育費用的2.5%是使用在大學和專上教育方面。該比率在美國和南韓之後。教育程度排名在加國之後的是以色列，46%；日本，45%；美國42%。
