【保羅上菜】Lucky Dinner

Last Saturday was my lucky day. First of all, I got a package from my family in Taiwan in the afternoon and then in the evening I got a phone call from my friend Han-Ju. She invited me to her house to have dinner ; because Chef Paul(one of our friends) made some dishes for us. That was a big surprise! Fortunately, I hadn’t had dinner at that time, so I decided to go to her house.

Originally, those dishes were made for another friend who is also comes from Taiwan ; but he called Paul and said he couldn’t come at the last moment. Han-Ju said there is a story in the Bible: someone prepared a lot of food for friends, but those friends didn’t show up, so they invited people on the street to enjoy that food, they called them ”lucky people”. That was very interesting and I was one of the lucky people.

I was very impressed with one dish which was chicken and basil stir fried with soya sauce, sesame oil and some herbs and seasonings. That is kind of a traditional Taiwanese food, but I don’t really like the smell of basil so I seldom ate that dish in Taiwan. But Paul is a good chef, he did a good job on it and it tasted delicious.
I really liked it. Han-Ju also make a kind of energy soup, of stewed chicken, red jujube, the medlar, mushroom and some veggies or herbs.
That made me think about my hometown!

After dinner we had some banana cake which was make by Han-Ju.
For a while, Ayako brought her husband, Nobu, to join our party. That was the first time e had seen him. For a long time, we all have looked forward to seeing him, because we have heard many funny stories about him. They went to Santa Fe that afternoon, just to buy a game player(Nintendo) because Nobu is really into playing games. He said the other colors of the Nintendo were sold out so he bought
a pink one(he’s so embarrassed about the pink color!)

They shared more things about their trip to New Orleans we really had fun to chat together. Then Nobu needed to go back to the lab for a while. He always works hard, it was almost 11 o’clock at that time.
(working hard hero-Nobu Kurita)

I am glad to have a lot of good friends here, they are always concerned about me and have helped me when I needed it I really appreciate them. Almost everyone I meet here is nice and I have learned about different cultures from them.

I also appreciate my family, friends and neighbors. Since I came to Los Alamos they have always been concerned about me and have given me a lot of help. I think I am lucky and happy, I hope I can share that with more people and stray animals, help them feel better in their life!
