X’mas Eve @ La Folie

G returned to SF on schedule on X’mas eve and before we barely settled in, we set out for our X’mas dinner. 9:30pm reservations @ www.lafolie.com (yes, pretty late for dinner as I don’t live in New York city where it’s typical for people to dine after 10pm and hit 1st bar after midnight.)

La Folie is a very authentic and traditional French where you can expect frog legs, quail and foie gras, and of course, rabbit meat. I am not a big fan for any of the above and fortunately there was only one set of 3-course menu for X’mas dinner, not much different from normal day-to-day menu but each set cost $30 more. Appetizer was additional, which included half ouce caviar over perfectly-prepared bite-size salmon (everything is bite-size of course) and a glass of champange, for $70. Geez! But it was absolutely mouth watering!!!!

Amuse bush was quite amusing. I first learned about this term from Sex and the city, didn’t know what it was until last trip in Tahoe at this steak house it was given from the house. It usually is a small tray with one piece of oyster and cold veggie soup with cream cheese. Pretty tasty.

It was typical French dining. Huge plates served with less-than-2-bite of food, that’s the beauty of French. I had duck sausage soup as starter, seared scallop for the appetizer and seared duck breast for entree (4 bites). A dessert sampler was on house, which had 10 different samples served in a granite tray. Very cute.

Yes...after all this fine wining and dining...the bill arrived with $400 charge...um...definitely once-a-year treat!
