Presentation
of the Son of God
Scriptures:John 1-4
Heart of the Passage:John 1:1-18; 2:13-25
Overview
John
writes with a specific goal in mind: to place the life of Jesus Christ in such
a light that it will be unmistakably clear who He is (the son of God) and how
new life can be found in Him (20:30-31). John carefully selects events from
Christ's earthly life and ministry, building a case for His deity that is
difficult to refute. He begins in eternity past, showing how the Word (who was
one with God; 1:1) became flesh to take His message of life to mankind. John
describes selected men and women (the disciples, Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman
by the well) and the life-changing transformation which Jesus brings.

Your Daily Walk
Being
"born again" has become a popular phrase today, even in nonreligious
circles. But a lot of fuzzy thinking exists about exactly what being born again
means. A popular singer climbs to the top of a mountain, gazes at the
incredible vista below, and declares that he has been "born again."
Is being born again simply a "Rocky Mountain high"?
An
athlete, hobbled by a troublesome knee injury, undergoes successful surgery and
exclaims that his career has been "born again." Is being born again
simply successful physical healing and rehabilitation?
John 3:16—perhaps
the best-known and best-loved verse in the Bible—says, "For God so loved
the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life." Being born again is the
salvation that comes through believing in God's Son, Jesus Christ. Read John
5:24. If you still have a question about being born again, check with your
pastor today.
Insight
John, the Unique Gospel
About 92
percent of the contents of John's gospel is unique to that book and not found
in Matthew, Mark, or Luke. Six miracles recorded in John are found nowhere else
in Scripture, including such favorites as the water turned into wine (2:1-11),
the healing of the blind man (9:1-41), and the resurrection of Lazarus
(11:1-44).
Adage
If you are never born again, you will wish you had never
been born at all.
