【Manhattan生活雜記】在紐約的日子_A letter to my sis...
Dear Sis......
We’re now living in friend’s house in Staten Island, an island right below the Manhattan until 9/1. After 9/1, we will move into our on-campus apartment and will bw finally settle down.
New York is not as perfect as what I’ve expected. Streets at downtown are narrow and dirty. People here sometimes behave like those who are not well-educated. They often cross the streets at the red light, ignoring the horning of cars moving through the streets. They also throw litters casually....and I guess this is why downtown’s always dirty. However, there are still some good points of this city, such as the famous sightseeing spots like time square, Washington Square, Statue of Liberty, and so on.
The street performers are also attractive to tourists like us. I’ve seen several awesome performances, but I didn’t pay for the
performances....haha....
People here are both nice and indifferent. Some would be ill-mannered to you simply because your English is not good enough; however, others would be nice to offer help. Black people’s English is diffcult to understand.....They talk very fast in a special accent. I would feel a little nervous to talk to them...
Staten Island is a beautiful place, I think it is one of the best neighborhood to live , but it is a little bit far from Manhattan. It will usually take you 1.5 hours to commute from the island to Columbia U which is located at uptown Manhattan...and the cost for commuting is also expensive. 10 dollars would be cost for a round trip. Food here are extremely expensive as well... Okay...I
got to go now...Take care...
Best regards, Fio. I miss you guys...
