The dorm is 200m away from the school building...a five-story building, with 26 rooms...do i have to bring a ta-tung electric pot? or chopsticks, bowls, fruit knife? it's estimated i'll need 1000euro per month, really that hight? do people in ams'dam wear sandles with toes out to say hello or is short pants or summer clothes we wear in tw a common scene on the street? i've neverbeen to europe or stayed in a snowing place before..so i'm feeling a little bit insecure

Hi
First, you have to go to school if you want to surf the Internet. It is not possible to have internet hook-up unless you use dial-up. But that will be very expensive. Ususally, international students go to school to check e-mails. You can buy pre-paid phone card in Asian market to call your parents.
Second, you might need a laptop at home as such you can write your paper at home sometimes.
Third, please be aware that the power system is 220 Volt. You don't need to bring a rice cooker from Taiwan since the Voltage is 110.
Fourth, as for living expense, 1000 Euro is too high. Take me as an example, my rental fee is 300, monthly ticket is 51, and eating is ususally less than 200 per month. With no extra exspense, such as travelling, I only spend 500 Euro or less per month. I don't think I am living in a poor standard.
Fifth, you are allowed to bring only 20 kg (or 30 kg) to Europe. Be sure to take something necessary.
Sixth, don't worry about clothings. No one will pay attention to us. Just be yourself. Take something you really need.
Living aboard is not that easy but is not that difficult. Be flexible and enjoy suffering and good things. You will love Amsterdam.
Best,
Julia
