The Electric Prunes樂團原名The Sanctions，1965成立於加州洛杉磯，1966被介紹給唱片製作人Dave Hassinger，簽入Reprise唱片公司後被「建議」更名，當然也是列了一大串的選擇名單。依據主唱James Lowe的說法，Electric Prunes( 電動梅子？) 這個名字剛開始也只是個玩笑，但最後還是說服其他團員接受了，理由是：這個團名既不吸引人也不性感，但大家終將不會忘記它。

The Electric Prunes的第一首單曲《Ain't It Hard》 (1966) 並不成功，製作人Hassinger看他們不會寫歌，就找上了職業寫歌雙人組Annette Tucker & Nancie Mantz，這首《I Had Too Much to Dream ( Last Night)》即是其中的一首。此曲在1966年底發行，1967分別在美國告示牌熱門榜及英國排行榜獲得第11和49的名次。之後，此曲被用為Electric Prunes的首張專輯及1972的複合專輯《Nuggets》( 由一位Lenny Kaye老兄組合了60年代中期一些psychedelic( 迷幻 ) 和garage ( 車庫 ) 搖滾的歌曲 ) 的第一首曲目，因而更廣被人知。

其實歌名中的「Dream」也有「Drink」諧音雙關語的意思 -- 昨晚我喝(酒)得太多了。歌曲述說男主角雖然女友離去但仍愛著她，在夢境中感覺仍擁有著她，但醒來後發現並非真實，自然又變得十分沮喪。呵呵，若真的夢到和被分手的舊情人纏綿，不知是好還是不好？
