此曲原名為《Don't Tell My Heart》，在1990稍早原預定由美國男子合唱團體The Oak Ridge Boys來錄唱，但該團體主唱Duane Allen不喜歡歌詞中「achy breaky」這兩個字的組合 ( achy的意思是疼痛，breaky則是破碎，兩個字放在一起的確有點怪怪的。)，最後決定棄錄。之後，由鄉村三兄弟團體The Marcy Brothers接手，不過，他們的版本在歌詞上做了些變更。另，有位Billy Ray Cyrus老兄在聽了寫歌者的示範帶後，決定將此曲收錄在他的首張專輯《Some Gave All》中，但將歌名改成了《Achy Breaky Heart》。
《Achy Breaky Heart》是Billy Ray Cyrus個人發行的首張單曲，卻一舉奪得了鄉村榜的冠軍 ( 流行榜 #4 )，並在澳洲獲得了3白金唱片的認證，也成了Cyrus的招牌歌。不過，此曲也有正負兩極的評價。2008，此曲在CMT ( 美國鄉村音樂電視 ) 歷來最佳100鄉村歌曲中排名第23，但也被音樂雜誌Blender評為歷來50大爛歌的第2名。而無論如何，拜此曲的音樂影帶之賜，使得「排舞 ( line dance )」進入了主流，更成為了一種熱潮。
看歌詞，此曲雖為失戀歌曲卻饒富趣味性，尤其看到「You can tell your dog to bite my leg」這句，更是讓人想發笑。男主角表達不滿、挖苦的對象，應該是屬於「媽寶」型、且凡事主觀囉嗦的女生。戀愛是男女雙方的事，在初期若要將各自的家庭、朋友也牽涉進來，另一方恐會難以承受而打退堂鼓。縱使雙方結了婚，原生家庭的干擾，也常是造成離婚的原因。
