Alistair Taylor，這位曾擔任過披頭合唱團的經理Brian Epstein的助理的老兄，某次問到Paul McCartney是如何創作歌曲的？McCartney就將他帶到餐間，先以風琴示範了一段，然後告訴Taylor，等一下無論他彈唱出什麼，要Taylor都喊唱出相對的詞句，結果就出現了black and white，yes and no，stop and go，hello and goodbye這些對字。之後，Taylor說，我很懷疑他是否能繼續完成這首歌？或是這整首歌早已貫穿在他的腦中？無論Taylor是如何的想，這首《Hello Goodbye》於焉產生。

據說John Lennon並不是很喜歡這首歌，而此曲於1967推出後，分別獲得美、英、法和挪威的排行榜冠軍，在澳洲和瑞士也得到亞軍。
