老歌亂談(194)You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me

人生的際遇很奇妙，往往會在不經意的情況下遇到一些人或事，而也很可能就此成為了一生事業的轉捩點。

我實在想像不出，英國靈魂女歌手Dusty Springfield怎會在1965跑去參加義大利Sanremo Festival的歌唱比賽 ( 為未曾發行過的歌曲 )，而且在進入了半決賽後遭到敗北。在此音樂節中，她聽到了義大利歌手Donaggio唱的這首《Io che non vivo(senza te) / I， who can't live (without you)》，儘管不瞭解歌詞的含意，但也聽得她熱淚盈眶。隨後，Dusty Springfield獲得了將這首歌錄為英文版唱片的機會，但限期為一年內。

妙的是，負責撰寫英文歌詞的兩位老兄，之前無寫歌經驗不說，也看不懂義大利歌詞是在講些什麼，在胡想了一些題材方向之後，最後決定寫為一首「反愛情」的歌，幾經修飾，歌名才訂為《You Don't Have to Say You Love Me》。次日，Dusty Springfield開始錄這首歌，但很不滿意音效和她自己的聲音，從錄音間轉到樓梯間，一共錄了47次才完成。

這首歌於1966推出後，獲得英國排行榜的冠軍以及美國排行榜的第4名，也應該是Dusty Springfield最為知名的歌曲。我們的小鄧也曾翻唱此曲，至於唱得如何，就留待歌友們自己去做評論吧。
