NetFlow is the software on Cisco IOS that can measure statics, using UDP protocol.
What is NetFlow?
Inbound traffic only
Accounts for transit traffic and traffic destined for the router
Work with Cisco Express Forwarding or fast switching
7 components:
Source IP address, Destination IP address, Source port, Destination Port, Layer 3 protocol type, Type of service Byte, Input logical interface
What is RMON?
RMON are extensions to SNMP that provide comprehensive network Monitoring to SNMP that provide comprehensive network monitor capabilities.
Monitoring inbound and outbound traffic
Source and destination of traffic
Layer 1-7 stastics and history of traffic
Events and alarms
NetFlow for monitoring/trending links continuously
RMON analyzer performs deeper analysis
