Life in Toronto

Day1-7/13(Sat.)
Until I said goodbye to my family, I didn’t realize that I started my journey alone. I felt a little nervous and helpless. The 14-hour flight seemed a little long; however, it wasn’t really so. My seat was by the window, and it allowed me to overlook the great scene including mountains, sea, and cloud. We flew over 10,000 meters high by near 1,000 km/ hr, and the temperature outside was -50’C. It was an amazing experience for me. By the way, I watched “Monsters. Inc.” and “ Despicable Me”.
I didn’t sleep so long. The flight landed twice, and I don’t know why. After checking in and taking my suitcase, I met a 23-year-old young man who majors in dental care was waiting for me. He led me to Terminal1, and started a rough conversation. I was a little sad for he couldn’t understand what I said actually. Then, his driver helped me call my driver!? My driver opened and read his map when driving so fast! He gave up talking with me because I didn’t know what his “Is your bag there?” means! Finally, I arrived home and two students (Moath & Morad) from Saudi Arabia welcomed me with passion, and they helped clean my room and introduced the house to me. I try to be accustomed to everything here like some friends sang in the spring…
P.S. I broke my shorts at the first night…

Day2-7/14(Sun.)
I woke up at 7:30 while others did in the afternoon. I had breakfast alone, ordered salad & tea, and didn’t pay the tips. After I got home, I called Chris, and then he and his wife came to help know something about transportation and even give me three dollars. I felt that people in Toronto are friendly (ex. yield chairs) and like to shake hands when meeting. In Toronto, you don’t have to raise your hand to stop the bus, but you should push the rear door by yourself when you want to get off the bus.
I started my adventure today, and walked around almost the whole city. I went to Queen Quay to see the beautiful Ontario Lake.

Day4-7/16(Tue.)
I woke up at 6:00 and tried to use the washing machine and microwave here. I made a little mess! I went to join in the Culture Club in the morning, and ask someone to help me find the right place. Then we walked to St. Lawrence Market, which is a very traditional place. I met a Korean, and he bought a piece of pizza to share with me. We chatted a lot about Chinese words and culture.
At noon, I met Laurie…then I went to Royal Bank Plaza to have lunch. In the afternoon, it’s my first class (B2, Higher Intermediate). There are 3~4 new students, but it is still hard for me to make new friends. I chatted with a Japanese, who had graduated from university. She told me that she had been to Taiwan (for sure!!). She had travelled around (western) Taiwan, and felt that Taiwanese foods were delicious and cheap. At night, I failed to find Walmart … and failed to have sweet pasta…

In the morning, I visited China Town, and bought lots of souvenirs inclusive of eight post cards, one cup, and so on. People here are friendly, too. The clerk told me where the post office was. However, the food here isn’t cheap and delicious, either. Maybe I got in a wrong restaurant.
Before class, I summoned (=plucked up) my courage to ask her to invite AGO(Art Gallery) together. Luckily, she agreed and introduced me to her friends. We were such a big group. It was interesting to see many works including Ai Wei Wei’s work, Snake. However, my phone camera had some problems and I lost some pictures. We had dinner in Jack Astor's. It was my first time to have a trip within a group, so I felt so happy, though I came home so late.

After class, I went to Shoe Museum with a classmate from Brazil and talked about some politics between China and Taiwan with him.     I went out almost nearly at noon today because I thought people all the world left me alone inclusive of classmates of high school, university, PLI, and so on. However, it was still a nice day to travel alone. These days, traffic had a little mess, so we should take the bus instead of some periods of the subway. When I got to the St. George Station, I didn’t understand what happened, so I got out of the station and visited a little park and a mart (just bought some water…)
Then, I got to the Bay Station, and found Roots Store. Maybe it was my first time to buy clothes or go shopping alone. I bought two T-shirts for 25% off. I had a big strawberry waffle for lunch! After that, I arrived at Eaton Centre, Dundas Square, New and Old City Halls to buy many things, and see many shows and beautiful scenes.

I wake up early to check the way to St .Catherine, and made the beautiful wrong decision then. I went to wait for the bus at 6:20, and missed one. Therefore, I got on the bus at nearly 7 o’clock. It took me long time to find Exhibition GO Rail Station, and I got many people’s help. There was nobody in the ticket office, and the ticket machine didn’t work, so I didn’t know what to do. Though I found that I can get on the train without paying, but I still went back to the ticket office, and missed the train. I had to wait for the train for another hour; however, it was lucky for me to meet a woman from Tibet (born in India). We chatted a lot, and she even gave me some coins to pay the bus fee. She said that I was like his son. Besides, a man who had lived in Wuhan said “How are you!” in Chinese to me.
On the way to St. Catherine, the scene was really amazing. I could see the green plain and the blue lake through the window. Though it almost took me nearly 6 hours to arrive at Niagara Falls, I thought the whole journey was worthy. I ordered a beef burger, which cost 5 dollars, and waited for Doris. Her relatives were really good people. When we arrived at Niagara Falls, there was really wonderful view. Then, we took the boat inside Niagara Falls, and it was so exciting activity.
