Finding the meaning of life
Most of us work instead of being a homeless and wonder around. Out of all that work, no matter what our jobs are, our job directly, or indirectly contribute to our society. That is if your work doesn't require you to lie. To lie is like to hurt another person, so that doesn't count. No matter how boring, low paying your job seems, working honestly on your job is one way you can contribute to this society.
Many people don't see it that way though, but think about this: if there is no sales person in this world, no one will know where to buy goods. So the service, as a sales person, in fact help people to get what they want. If you do have to lie in order to make a sale or at your job... you might find yourself empty and lonely. That is because the inner you is sad cause it knows you hurt someone. So when you get lonely from telling lies, you might feel that you need to reach out and find out who you really are, why you are here on this earth, what you should be doing.
For the above three most important questions on meaning of life, the first two I know the answer. The last one is really difficult to find the answer. The last question is what people always refer to as "soul searching". Whether one did the right thing or not.
Most of us determine if we do the right thing or not by checking to see if the work we performed did helped someone. If you helped, it means you contributed. I agree with this cause this is the most common way of thinking I can see.

I know many talented, bright people they do volunteering. Besides their jobs, they take time to care about another person. Some even work for a non-profit organization they believe in. They get pay a lot less. Some work as professors, teachers, who also get pay little.
Our society own great to these people cause if we don't have any volunteers, social workers, professors, teachers, doctors... our society is going to collapse because most of us work for ourselves (nothing wrong with that, we are responsible to stuff food into our mouth). I don't want to call that selfishness cause I know we do have to survive. But when you think about where do you belong, this society, you will see the needs in it. The needs are everywhere. They are waiting for your help. And HELPING EACH OTHER IS ESSESTIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF THE WHOLE SOCIETY. Because no one can live by him/herself. Period.
When we were young, the only thing we know is care about our own self. And as we grow older, our sense of self is getting smaller. We now know what is going on in the world. We care about politics, society issues, and people around us. Our needs to connect with these people grow stronger. It is this same "need" that pushes bright and talented people to volunteer, to make sacrifices in order to become doctors, professors, teachers, social workers, etc.
Eventually, you and I will find the right thing to do. Whether it is volunteering, being honest in our work, or going into a profession that interact and help tons of people that have great needs. This right thing will fill the need in us and helps us feel that in our lives, we have finally accomplished something.
