One night in Beijing

HK076 One night in Beijing

I am surprised that I like Beijing better than Hong Kong, at least for the first impression.

Actually I did not ”feel” that I was physically in China, where I always thought to be a place that was poor (according to its GDP per capita). The airport is fairly clean, better than the one in Bali. The sky is clearer, and the roads are much wider. People are definitely right that it is a city with coexistence of original and modern of everything. The streets are full of buildings that have sleek bodies with Chinese style roofs. Lots of cars on the streets, but surely lots of bicycles too. Some of the commercial boards are luxurious brands and some others truly reflect the booming economy and technology (i.e. China Mobile, China Construction Bank). Some shopping malls are just like the ones in Hong Kong, while on the street they are selling barbeques of insects.
It was just a one short trip, arriving at 9pm and departing at 5pm on the next day. I was in the cabs most of the time. It usually takes 45-60 minutes traveling from one meeting to another, and a lot of time I was in traffic jam. I was not taken to any real tourist spots, except to 王府井 for 30 minutes and ate wan-ton soup there on the night I arrived.

You know why I enjoyed Beijing? Because it was so cheap. and I guess it was so much more like home than Hong Kong.

ps.
