Love...Out of Reach

He stumbled out of the building, thinking what he had just done.

It was a cold winter night, he had gone out with some friends for a drink at a pub nearby. It had not been a smooth day for him, everything he did went against him. He had a bad bay at work, he messed up his dinner, the dog had bitten the cat and the toilet in his bedroom was leaking.

He was a respected man, having a notable position in a worldwide known company, a leader of thousands of staff across Europe. Yet this did not help him in finding ’the right one’. He had met many attractive women, but he wasn’t interested. He had met young ladies coming from rich famililes, he didn’t need money, he had a lot to spend already. He was approaching his forties, all of his friends were married and had established a home. Everytime they joined up, it would be all about their troublesome wives nagging and mischievous children at home. He was glad that he was single, no fuss, no trouble. But he did want someone to hold during the cold winter nights or someone to be by his side when times were not so good or a partner to be on hoilday with during his long summer breaks. But women seemed a distant creature to him, he couldn’t understand how his friend put up with them. Diamond Rings, plush fashion accerories, designer brand handbags, it all looked a waste of money to him.

This night was no other, John talked about the quarrel between his wife and his mum, how it had turned into a cold war between the two for over two weeks. It all started because his wife was jealous of his mother, how John had bought a house for her so that she could live there with his dad, but his wife had other ideas on her mind. She had wanted to buy some new stocks and go shopping in Italy. Saying that it was a waste of money and that she wanted to control John’s bank account from now on. Reluctantly, John agreed.

"How selfish women are" he thought as he listened.

Then it was Peter, he wanted to sell the house and move to another one nearby. Everyone felt sympathetic towards Peter, he had been on course to become the next bank manager in the city, but his wife had let him down when he discovered that she was addicted to gambling. Loan sharks cornered him in the streets one day and made him pay off his wife’s debts. The debts had grown to a staggering ten thousand pounds. He lost his job and has since become jobless.

"How ugly women are" he thought as he listened.

Paul spoke of his problems, he had just got married and we were all happy for him. He was a bright lad at school and had a good education. He had worked well during the years and was now a successful businessman. His wife was 15 years younger than him, and how they met each other is still a mystery. His face was gloom as he talked, he had talked how his wife went out at night and didnt return until early morning previously. These strange happenings continued and Paul decided to check it out for himself. He didn’t believe his wife was going out with another man, surely that had to be a mistake. He followed her through the streets and saw another man meeting with her. They held hands, they kissed. They left, Paul followed. They didn’t stop until they arrived at a motel. Paul was heart-broken. His wife had been cheating on him, Poor Paul.

"How dirty women are" he thought as he listened.
