>> flat type vs. wave type <<

This video is titled as "Modern Japanese Breaststroke Study", in which it presents 2 types of breaststroke swimming position (in fact, there is the 3rd, "mixed" but it's not included in the video but only captions) and 3 kinds of kicking techniques.

Basically, it's distinguished into 2 types, flat and wave according to body position. The 0:36  flat type, swimming rather horizontally close to the surface; while the 01:10 wave type, making use of body undulation to increase propulsion as well as decrease the drag.

As to the kicking, it mainly categorizes different kicks with the amplitude & sharp your legs swipe during kicking & how you kick..
02:10   wadge type- kick wide
02:30   wave type- kick narrow
02:40   mixed type-  draw your feet as "wave type", kick in the same way of wedge type.

All the elite swimmers in competition are employing "wave type", majority of swimmers in the pools we see in Taiwan, "flat type".  However, the kids and teenagers nowadays mainly swim "wave type".
