Lori Davies is an experienced Salt Spring weaver who takes great satisfaction in offering only the highest quality, machine-washable & dryable, hand-woven products. After apprenticing under master weaver Diane Mortensen for three years, Lori started her own business in 2005. From her early work with beautiful placemats, table runners and tea cosies, she has expanded her line of hand-woven articles to include stunning scarves and blankets as well. Each limited- edition run is pre-washed and pre-shrunk, and made from color- fast cottons, viscose, linens and other yarns.

When designing, as many as fifty shades and textures of yarn are blended into a single run. These are then wound (or “warped”) onto one of four looms, making about one hundred and forty placemats and fourteen table runners for each warp. Scarves and blankets are done in much smaller runs - sometimes as little as one at a time. During the weaving stage, every throw of the shuttle is made as perfect and consistent as possible! If it is not, then it is undone, and the shuttle is thrown again, until it is just the way it should be. This ensures that the edges stay straight, and that the tension is the same from one item to the next, and from one run to the next.
