Watch out! Ferrari and Maserati owners, Mercedes Benz has just joined their supercar supremacy race. The new MB SLR 722 has all the attributes of a super car. A homage to the MB’s unforgettable victory won by the British racing legend Sir Stirling Moss and his co-driver Dennis Jenkinson in a MB 300 SLR with the starting number 722 at the Mille Miglia in 1955.
The AMG hand-built supercharged 5.5 liter V8 produces 650 HP. 0-60 mph is achieved in only 3.6 seconds, and 124 mph is reached in just 10.2 seconds. Maximum speed is 209 mph. Although its only 2 mph higher than the regular SLR’s 207 mph top speed, it is still a significant achievement.
To make this model a track worthy worrier, handling is improved by a sophisticated suspension system, with 19” light-alloy wheels, a stiffer damper configuration and a 10 mm lower body. The modified front spoiler with an air splitter and the added rear diffuser improved the aerodynamics and high speed stability. Larger brakes are also part of the package.
Interior improvements include a new bucket-type race seats upholstered in Alcantara leather provide more lateral support. Carbon fiber accent also provide a nice visual cue through out the cabin.
