Aron Lee Ralston

Aron Lee Ralston (born October 27, 1975) is an American mountain climber and public speaker. In 2003, while he was on a hiking trip in Blue John Canyon (near Moab, Utah), a boulder became dislodged, crushing his right forearm and pinning it against the canyon wall. He stayed cold and waitd for help to arrive a couple of day, however, there was no one come by. And worst of all, he was running out of supply. He was forced to amputate his lower right arm with a dull knife in order to free himself after his arm became trapped by a boulder. After freeing himself, he was still seventeen miles from his stick shift truck, and he had no cellular phone. He had to rappel down a 65-foot (20 m) sheer wall, then hike out of the canyon in the hot midday sun. While hiking out, he encountered a couple on vacation from The Netherlands, Eric and Monique Meijer, and their son, Andy, who gave him water and then alerted the authorities. He was ultimately rescued by a helicopter search team six hours after amputating his arm.

After the accident, Ralston made numerous appearances. He released his first book, Between a Rock and a Hard Place, and become a corporate speaker. He documented his experience in the book, and it had been filmed a movie named 127 hours. Some members of the audience in Toronto and, more recently, at Upstate, NY, fainted without injury due to the realistic amputation scenes. It is well popular in the world and had its place in both the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.

When I first time heard this story, I was extremely astonished. How stronge his willing is to seek to live on! He had to endure the pain and plucked up his courage to watch his own blood pouring out. After devided his arm and body, he even had to try to get out of the canyon. I could not imagine a person with bloody arm walking across the desert for help. I think I would give up right away and try every hard to kill myself if I faced this kind of situation. I don’t have as much courage as him to use a instrument with a dull blade to save me from the plight. I can’t overcome the obstacle of my mind. These are the factors I admire Aron Lee Raston. He is such a stronge-willing man I have ever seen.
