主唱爆發力十足的沙啞嗓音，搭配電吉他厚重的旋律，是Nickelback一貫的搖滾力道與水準，他們可說是post-grunge(後車庫音樂)中的佼佼者。尤其是團員曾經說到，他們不在乎別人如何評斷他們，只想更深入的將這幾年豐碩成果與生活點滴跟樂迷們分享，誠實的表現自我，充滿活力的製作出好專輯。在極度商業化的唱片市場中，還能夠堅持保持自己的音樂理念，更顯得他們創作的難能可貴。

自我宣傳 到迅速竄紅的本土風

Nickelback(又名五分錢樂團)成立於加拿大的小城Hanna，最初的成員是Chad Kroeger(主唱/吉他手)，他的兄弟Mike Kroeger(貝斯手)，他們的表兄弟Brandon(鼓手)，以及他們的好朋友Ryan Peake(吉他手)。1996年，Chad Kroeger向他的繼父借了四千元跑到了溫哥華一個朋友的錄音室裡錄製歌曲，其間，Brandon離開了樂隊，他們的朋友Ryan Vikedal接任了鼓手一職。這一年，他們發行了一張單曲《Hesher》，同時發行了一張獨立專輯《Curb》，並且開始巡迴演出。但是一開始他們是絲毫沒有名氣的，他們花費大量時間去散發廣告文宣，以及發動親戚朋友向電台打電話要求播放他們的歌曲，從而使樂團得到一定程度上的宣傳，並且擁有了自己第一批較為固定的歌迷。

1998年，他們解雇了自己的經紀人。在之後的時間裡，樂團由Mike Kroeger主要負責財務方面，Chad Kroeger主要負責音樂製作方面，Ryan Vikedal則負責日程安排等。2000年初，第二張獨立專輯《The State》正式發行，沒想到唱片立刻受到全加拿大的注意，而被加拿大人譽為屬於自己國家的搖滾團，唱片也賣破50萬張。當時的加拿大搖滾音樂幾乎完全被國外的搖滾樂所佔領，他們急需尋找自己本土化的搖滾樂。正在這時候，加拿大人發現了Nickelback，這使他們迅速竄紅。他們追求的post-grunge音樂風格成為歌迷的最愛，他們的巡迴演唱會也成為了音樂界的焦點，他們的獨立專輯銷量也沒有輸給一般唱片。

五分鐘 創作冠軍單曲

2001年《Silver Side Up》專輯中的單曲『How You Remind Me』是2002年Billboard年終單曲榜冠軍，也是讓他們紅遍全世界的代表作之一。聽說這首歌是主唱在演唱會前夕的五分鐘，有感而發寫下的一首歌，沒想到卻以五分鐘而得到全世界的注目。挾持著銷售長紅的氣勢，主唱Chad Kroeger也受邀在電影｢蜘蛛人｣中單獨獻唱，也跟Saliva的Josey Scott合作電影宣傳曲，還參與Santana的作品演出。

抓住聽眾 小品兼具硬搖滾風

Nickelback近年的兩張專輯分別是2003《The Long Road》與2005《All the Right Reasons》，以銷售量來說後者更勝一籌，不過筆者獨鐘愛《The Long Road》這張專輯。單曲『Someday』，延續前作流暢的旋律與俐落的搖滾聲浪，全美電台點播率高居不下。『Someday』可說是樂團的代表抒情作品，主唱高亢沙啞的嗓音在此歌中，把憂鬱的歌詞情境非常流暢的表達出來。另外MV也是拍的相當地好，講的是一對戀人的生死愛情故事。與歌曲寫的意境相對比較下，格外令人感動。此專輯中另外一首經典之作『Figured you out』，稍微脫離非主流的硬搖滾曲調加上沉重紮實的大鼓聲與BASS聲，帶出此歌曲之磅礡氣勢。主唱豪邁不羈的唱腔讓歌曲更加狂野，但是又不脫離在『Someday』中憂鬱沉悶中帶有蓄勢待發的氣勢味道。Nickelback的音樂在搖滾樂中算是小品，聽慣一般流行音樂的人也能接受稍微重口味的硬搖滾曲風。『Figured you out』就是此風格的代表作，能抓住一般聽眾的心也能同時抓住硬搖滾愛好者的口味。
