Be yourself:Lee Hom Wang---What`s up全民英檢誌11月

Up:You're an ABC.Why did you choose to build a career in Asia?

Wang:It isn't often that a musician has the chance to really communicate with listeners, especially as a composer. And I knew I could do that here. When I started out,my Mandarin was horrible,so I spent a lot of time imporing it.Even today I still challengemyself to improve my Mandarin so that I can write better Iyrics.

UP:You've worked hard on your Chinese. Is that because you like singing in Mardarin better than singing in English?

Wang: I wouldn't say that they're very different things. But I feel like I have more of a niche here than in the US.Also I feel like I have more to contribute here. But I have done a lot of stuff in English, and I will release an English language album one day.

Up:Speaking about releasing albums, you have a new one out.Do you feel like you have to produce albums very quickly?

Wang:I do about an album a year. That's a medium pace, but i still feel like I'm rushed.Every artist feels like he doesn't have enough time. But you have to find a balance between what's reasonable and what's not.

Up:That's good advice. Now your fans will notice that you've changed your look. Why did you do that? Was it your record company's idea?

Wang:It was definitely not my record company's idea.Acturally,my company was a little bit worried about the change. But I decided to do it anyway. You have to be yourself first and foremost. The artists I like stay true to themselves.

Up: you like artists who break new ground. What kind of people do you like to be friends with?

Wang:I like people who are creative.People who question society and their own habits.I don't like people who just play by the rules.I believe people need to think for themselves.

Up:Can you give us an introduction to your new album?

Wang:When I sat down to write the songs,I actually told myself that I wanted to make songs that would sound really cool live. Not a lot of electronic stuff, just live instruments and really live album. It's got a lot of energy to it.I think it's a very innovative
album.

Up:What about the lyrics?

Wang:They tell a lot of stories.Since recording my last album,I've had so many encounters that were worth writing bout.Which isn't to say that the stories are all true.My lyrics come from what I've seen in this world, but I always change things a little to make the song something that other people can relate to.
