Chinese Style

Intro

I'm joining in an elective course called " A review of modern Chinese characters ", which introduces  historical characters lived in China between 1600 to 1911. Not only the Chinese but includes foreigners came to China. And Mr. Lyu, the instructor, has his opinions on what is called " Chinese style " songs singed by Jay Chou recently.

Method

It reminded me of a song, 江山萬里心. The song tunes full of Chinese amorous feelings and words Chinese scenic spots and beautiful landscapes. It's a song of titles of a program broadcast since 1990 called 大陸尋奇. The program deeply introduced history, geography and culture in different places in China. It could be a song with " Chinese style ".

Result

Mr. Lyu told us that his major is just history of China, he can know no more about Chinese style, so he cannot agree with Jay, a Taiwanese singer who is well famous for his songs with Chinese style. He only add a little classical Chinese in words of songs, matched with a little Chinese style tune, successfully separated his song from other ordinary ballads. That cannot exactly called the Chinese style.

Conclusion

Every person may defend his or her major probably. Maybe everyone identified their own Chinese style, and singer only singing what he thought, just in that time to gain the people's heart so he pushes the popularity. But popularity just exist in a short time, only the real worth thing can meet with trial of time. So there is not necessary to the popularity, as my accounting professor said, " open mind! "
